Her ex-boyfriend Robert Lee Burton Jr. pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison at age 22. This gave Melissa much more relief knowing the man who changed her life forever would be behind bars for good.

She was left for dead, but miraculously survived the brutal attack. One of the stabs left her partially paralyzed in the face, yet she was simply happy to be alive.

#5 The First Pitch

As part of her community work representing domestic violence, Melissa was honored with throwing the first pitch first at the Tampa Bay Rays baseball game

#6 Road To Recovery

Melissa slowly began to recover with the help of her best friend Kayla. Each and every day she began to heal and regain strength and confidence. Melissa underwent scar excision and revision surgery to help her body heal, and also had missing teeth.

While visiting a church event, Melissa ran into Cameron, the one of the firefighter-paramedics that helped save her life on that horrifying day. They both felt an instant spark when they began to talk...
