Filmmaker Charles Frank could never figure out where the disconnect between himself and his family occurred...but he knew it was there. It’s interesting,” Charles said. “The ‘disconnect’ was not because of any dramatic or horrible reason, it just started slowly happening after I left home when I was 18. I think I was so focused on developing my career and my own ‘home’ that other relationships fell by the wayside.”

“The voicemails and home video made me reflect on my Mother’s support and love through the years,” Charles says. “It’s just as powerful today as it was when I was 5 years old… even in the face of my recent neglect. That’s something I really look up to. To give without any expectation of a return is the most noble thing somebody can do. That said, my Mother deserves a return, and I hope this film is a step in the right direction.”

#3 The Voicemails

Charles then went through his own phone, and realized there were 38 previously unheard voicemails...mostly left by his mother Dawn. His voicemail became the only way she could communicate with him, saying she “missed having a son” on many of them.

At 21 years old, Charles discovered 20 hours of home movies that his mom had kept, and went down memory lane as he transferred them to a hard drive.

Feeling sad about their relationship, Charles created the short film “My Baby You’ll Be,” and it's narrated by Dawns voicemails. Charles says it's a gift to his mother and her unconditional love!
