#1 Lay back down
If you’ve ever worked out in pursuit of a more fine-tuned physique then you have probably done crunches or sit-ups. You were wasting your time and here’s why:
#2 Flex intolerance
Doing too many sit-ups can also make your core so stiff that you can’t bend anymore, so say goodbye to tying your own shoes.
#3 They aren’t flattening your stomach
You can’t build down a part of your body, you can only build up, and so doing sit-ups isn’t going to flatten your abs. And since you’re just repetitively making a motion that your core was designed to do you aren’t even really working anything out to burn calories.
#4 Repetitive motion can set you up for injury
Sure your core is designed to bend and move and twist, but doing it over and over and over and over again just sets you up for the type of injury that comes from overusing a muscle group.
#5 Doesn’t help literally anything
Like I told you already, sit-ups just use muscles doing what they’re already made to do so there isn’t any challenge or strengthening happening--you aren’t even helping yourself stand up straighter or support your spine better.
#6 You can give yourself a herniated disk
You can get a herniated disk from the build up that comes from flexing and un-flexing your back muscles too much--like you do when you do sit ups. So don’t do that.
#7 They’re the worst
In short--stop sitting up. It just isn’t worth it.
