Baby Dominic Proves He's Still Adorable Years After Surgery for 'Pinocchio Nose'

#1 Rare Surgery

The doctors at Boston Children's Hospital working alongside with neurologists created a plan to restructure the baby's face. Of course, the surgery, like any surgery, came with its fair share of risks. The procedure was so rare, that the hospital documented the surgery for research.

#2 Happy Ending

Dr. Meara, the surgeon who directed this rare procedure, says that when Dominic is grown up, you won't be able to see much from the surgery, except for maybe a line or two from the incisions. What a warm, heartfelt story and a big win for medicine AND the Gundrum family!

#3 Startling Discovery

Dominic Gundrum was born with a growth on his precious little face, the size of a gof ball. Doctors said he only had hours to live after birth. What the doctor's found next was startling to the parents and the medical team.

#4 Brain Tissue Coming Out

The doctors determined that Dominic's facial abnormality was actually part of his BRAIN that was now growing outside of his body! This brain tissue was growing outside of the body, but it was assumed that it was just tissue — not from the brain.

#5 Prayers Up

After life-saving measures were taken by the medical staff, Dominic started to respond favorably. "We did a lot of soul-searching," said Mary Gundrum, Dominic's mother. The family prayed long and hard and with the help of their church, they were joined forces to wish their baby a successful surgery.

#6 Ultrasound = Ultra Scare

Giving birth may just be one of life's greatest privileges. For the Gundrum family, they were planning on delivering their 8th child, Dominic, when an ultrasound changed everything about the process.

#7 Gambled Paid Off

After a year and a half, baby Dominic is just a normal baby boy! All things considered, he is healthy and no longer has such an enormous tumor on his face.
